A Hazy Shade of Winter

As I walked this gloomy November morning, these lyrics came into my head….

Ahhh, seasons change with the scenery
Weaving time in a tapestry
Won’t you stop and remember me
At any convenient time?
Funny how my memory skips
While looking over manuscripts
Of unpublished rhyme
Drinking my vodka and lime
I look around
Leaves are brown now
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter

As the tune ran through my head, I had flashbacks of sitting in Albert Calvario’s living room (circa 1968) and listening to Simon and Garfunkel’s “Hazy Shade of Winter” as it spun on the turntable. It seems we analyzed each stanza of each verse of the songs then; rather like one does in a class on poetry but without the torture. Albert quipped, “They are wrong…… the seasons don’t change with the scenery but rather the scenery with the seasons.”

I wonder if kids still discuss the lyrics of songs.
